My Sweet Pea,
I was thinking about the garden today and how much fun we had growing things together. From the very start, you were my little helper, always eager to plant seeds and water the soil. But more than anything, you loved harvesting the vegetables—especially the carrots! You would pull them out of the ground with so much excitement, shake off the dirt, and then we’d take them inside to wash. Once they were nice and clean, you’d eat them right away, still holding onto the long green tops. It made me smile every single time.
And oh, the corn! I’ll never forget the first year we finally grew big, beautiful ears of corn. You took one bite, looked at me with wide eyes, and decided you needed another immediately. So, we went right back outside to pick another one, and I made it for you on the spot. You’ve always known exactly what you like.
The snap peas, though, I think those were your real favorite. You would eat them straight off the vine, never leaving any behind to bring inside. I didn’t mind one bit—I loved watching you enjoy them so much. And, of course, you were never afraid of the worms. While some kids might be squeamish, you thought they were fascinating, picking them up and letting them wiggle in your hands like tiny little garden pets.
Every time I step into a garden, I think of you. I hope one day you have a little garden of your own, where you can grow all the things you love. And I hope you always remember those warm, sunny days, pulling carrots, snacking on snap peas, and running back outside to pick another ear of corn with me.
I love you more than all the gardens in the world,
Nana
